I was just thinking about this little gem I did back in middle school called "Shadow Spider." Basically it's like Spider-Man 2099, only much cooler...so my 13-year-old self thought at the time, no doubt. My friend Lan could tell you more about the actual character since all I did was come up with the design. This was back in the 90s, so you can imagine what my influences would be on this.

Anywho, that's a nice little trip down Nostalgia Boulevard (it runs parallel to Memory Lane). Perhaps there are more gems in the works. Seeing so many great artist doing what they do is enough to get one's juices flowing.
I'm taking commissions! And they're only $30! Inked commissions on 8.5"x11" Bristol board! Full backgrounds? Partial Backgrounds? No backgrounds? One character? Multiple characters? It doesn't matter! All are a flat rate of $30! You can't find better deals than this anywhere! <s>If you can, go there instead!</s>...no, wait, that's not what I meant at all...

Do over!

If you find better deals anywhere else...I'll....MATCH it! Or do it cheaper! Yeah! That's more like it!

So yes. Commissions on 8.5"x11", full inked, however you want it, just $30!
So here's my newest piece. It's a character called Eighth Wonder from the independent comic Revolution of the Mask, written by Lewis Lovhaug (a.k.a. Linkara from Atop the Fourth Wall). The first two issues are available to download online for 72 cents. Check 'em out!
Sweet! Below you'll see the poll for all of last month's sketches. If you need to refresh your memory on what sketch was what, just check out all of the January posts I on my Sketch-A-Rama 365 blog.

So you're all probably saying to yourselves, "I sure haven't heard from Lew's art blog in a while? What's up with that?" Well yes, it's true I have been rather neglectful towards this blog in favor of my Sketch-A-Rama 365 blog. In retrospect, several factors entered into it. For one, I had gotten a new computer for Christmas, but my printer wasn't compatible with it and then it busted on me. So I've not been able to scan any real good stuff in the time I've had my new computer. I got a new scanner this week though, and I'm making pretty good use out of it. So that's one less thing to worry about.

Another crucial thing I'm realizing now: I don't think I was ever confident in my skills as an artist. I know, it's said that when you're an artist you're always your worst critic, but really I've always been very anxious about my work. I always strive to do try and better in everything I do, but I feel like I haven't grown much in my work. And it makes me very self-conscious about posting my stuff online, or even to pick a pencil and draw something. I know it's silly and all, but that's just how I felt for quite some time.

I will say this though; doing the 365 project is starting to boost my confidence. I did this project more or less for me and not anyone else, although I do enjoy everyone's feed back. There were times where I was so frustrated that I wanted to quit the whole thing altogether, but since starting this project I feel I have been improving tremendously, and I think it shows in my work as well. Plus it makes me happy to know that people are responding well to my posts, and that's always good boost for my ego.

So that brings us to what I plan to do for this blog. I'm going to continue this soon, now that I got a new scanner and everything. And I hope to start working on some actual pieces as well. I'll do a step-by-step blog as well, showing the piece in progress and all I do to make it work.

And speaking of my 365 blog, I'd like to announce that I'm making a poll of all the pictures I did in January and have you all vote on them to see which one you all liked best. The one with the most votes will be turned into a full sized picture. Now ain't that something? So stay tuned for that: I'll be figuring out ways to create polls here on Blogger.

Well, that's all I have to report right now. Stay tuned. There's more to come!
I hope it's something I have the intestinal fortitude to do. So starting on January 1st, look out for my first sketch of 2010, the first in a series of 365 sketches!

If you have any ideas, please post a comment on here and I will see what I can do. Until then, have a Happy New Year, and I'll see you in 2010!
Well it was a character developed by my good friend Lan Pitts of Landroid's Basement. Essentially she has the power to create bombs or something. I dunno. He could explain it a lot better than I could.
At one of those schools, she was approached by the art teacher there. She (the art teacher) told my mom that she had a little boy who she was a mentor to who really liked comic books and Spider-Man. My mom then told her that I do a lot of superhero stuff; so the art teacher then got in touch with me to see if I'd do a little project for her: a comic of the little boy and his friend as Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk, respectively. She gave me some guidelines to go by in doing this, like the boys will "magically" become the two superheroes and go off to save a damsel in distress or something like that. But I took some creative license with this: adding Venom into the picture for some real conflict, and, just for kicks, a cameo by everyone's favorite intergalactic Watcher, Uatu, who transforms them. It just seemed more plausible to me then they just "magically" transform into Spider-Man and the Hulk.

Over all, I think this could've turned out better had I been given a little more time to work on it. I'm not too thrilled about how the perspective in the first panel turned out. I thought I had it, but perspective is quite teh hardness. I do like how the panels are paced and such. I was going to do more than one page, but since I'm sure this lady was, I assume, working with me on a budget, I had to make the best of what I could. All in all, it turned out all right. My lettering sucks though, so I apologize for that. I even made one mistake in the dialog; see if you can spot it.

Anywho, that's my latest piece there. And I think it goes without saying that I hold no claim over the registered trademarks of the characters in this piece. All rights are with Marvel Comics (or Disney, I suppose). This is piece is a personal commission that is not intended for commercial distribution. So Marvel/Disney, please don't sue!

Hope you all enjoyed it. Now it's back to the old-drawing board.
But not just any Batman; he wanted me to draw Batman in the style of his first appearance in Detective Comics number 27, in May of 1939, as seen below:

So I figured I'd share with you some rough sketches I'm working on thus far. Enjoy!
I felt since I now wish to go by my full name, I think I needed to create a new one. I used to have the Lew Morgan's Art Blog as my home of operations. I didn't really update much there, either. So I need to start anew it seems.

And this time I want to post more often. I've always been bad about posting a lot (I'm sure you all know by now). So to start off, here's an old Batman sketch I did around the time of The Dark Knight. And I also drew a joker with it.

Lew Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16305338906754275828noreply@blogger.com2
